ONE TO ONE TUTORING

Whether your aim for your child is to review areas of work they have not understood, to provide them with support to enhance their classroom experience and build their confidence or to challenge them to a higher level, one to one tuition sessions will meet these needs.

Students often find mathematics challenging because they have gaps in their understanding or have not fully grasped some earlier concepts required for the next level. I work with each individual pupil to understand and identify these problem areas, tailoring one to one sessions to plug the gaps. Talking through methods and asking questions in a welcoming and relaxed setting will enable students to assimilate concepts that escaped them in the classroom. Students often learn in different ways. Tailoring materials and methods that support each student’s learning style will develop understanding and confidence.

Students may feel overwhelmed by the pace of change from one topic to another in mathematics lessons. One to one sessions reviewing work covered in school provide additional time and opportunity to assimilate knowledge and gain confidence applying this to problem solving questions. Research shows that the optimum time between initial learning of a topic and reviewing it again is 4 weeks. What better way to do this than with a structured session focused on your understanding and tailored to your learning style?

Pupils who are confident in mathematics may want to be challenged further. One to one tuition can focus on the level they are currently working at and stretch them, looking at techniques for applying understanding and knowledge to higher level problem solving.
